Meet the Author

Michael McAuliffe

Michael McAuliffe is an author, lawyer, father of three, and devoted dog-dad to the real Scout.

Long before Scout’s Snout, Michael had a successful career telling stories in very different settings. A former federal civil rights prosecutor and former elected State Attorney for Palm Beach County, he has spent almost forty years practicing and teaching law. His debut novel, No Truth Left to Tell, was published in 2020 and was inspired by his experiences as a young prosecutor in the South. www.notruthlefttotell.com

Scout’s Snout tells a story much closer to home. Inspired by his family’s real-life goldendoodle, Michael created an entertaining tale about learning to love  the very things that make us all unique.

When he isn’t writing, Michael is with his family or in the mountains. An avid mountaineer, Michael has summited Denali (Alaska), Aconcagua (Argentina), Kilimanjaro (Tanzania), and Island Peak (Nepal), and many others.

Michael and his wife, Robin, have three adult children and split their time between Washington, DC, and Chilmark, Massachusetts.

Meet the Illustrators

Chantelle & Burgen Thorne

Multi-award-winning illustration team Chantelle and Burgen Thorne are eclectic bookworms who delight in the magic of stories… and sometimes, write a story or two themselves.  As career illustrators, they’ve learned to draw really fast and are deft wielders of the digital brush. They’re at their happiest drawing kids' stories with a dollop of humour and a ton of animals. When not at their desks, they can be found being towed around the countryside by their three rescue dogs.

Meet the Star

Scout

Scout is a two-year-old goldendoodle from North Carolina. We took her home at eight weeks; she quickly became the hub of family life. She has three adult human siblings. She loves running, chasing, and lounging. Scout is a road trip dog and travels with no complaints for many hours. After all, she has a captured audience in a car.

She doesn’t realize she’s the star of a new book, but she’ll likely figure it out. Scout looks forward to providing licks and nose nudges with as many children as she can meet in the future.
